BUMN kali ini bertema “How to Build an Effective & Efficient Data
Center”.
Masalah konsolidasi terutama muncul ketika perusahaan menyadari perlunya data center

Windows XP per bulan April 2014, tepatnya tanggal 8 April 2014.

Rencana Microsoft sebenarnya ditentang para pengembang software besar.

Namun, jangan salah.

Virus komputer dikelompokkan menjadi sejumlah kategori berdasarkan cara kerjanya.
- Rootkit (cara kerjanya mirip sistem komputer biasa)

Manfaat Jaringan Komputer Terlengkap
1. Resource Sharing
5. Real Time
6. Komunikasi
Pertukaran data dan informasi.
Contoh : E-mail, Chatting, Instant Messaging.
7. Centralized Administration
Pengelolaan total sistem dari satu lokasi.
Contoh : Active directory pada Windows 2000/2003 Server.
8. Centralized Security
Contoh : Workgroup, komunitas open source software.
11. Efisiensi Biaya
Mengurangi Keperluan Hardware serta Software.
Contoh : Diskless workstation.

Jaringan Komputer WAN (http://www.golekilmu.com)
- Melakukan akses informasi seperti kegiatan browsing
- Local Area Network (LAN)
- Personal Area Network (PAN)
- Campus Area Network (CAN)
- Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
- Global Area Network (GAN)

Human beings have spent around 2 million years working with physical objects in physical space. We are hard-wired to enjoy throwing things into the air, at animals and at each other because mastery of these skills has given us a huge evolutionary advantage.
We understand the inter-relationships between weight, inertia, texture, tensile strength, brittleness, velocity and gravity so well, we’ve even given it another name. We call it instinct.
When we cross the road in front of a car, we are judging the speed of the car and the width of the road and performing fairly complex calculus in the process. Some would say that we are not really doing the calculations in this case – we are simply using instinct.
Calling this process ‘instinct’ isn’t very helpful because it doesn’t explain anything. We’re simply renaming the observation, rather than attempting to explain it.
The truth is the calculations do get done. We use a neural-based learning system rather than a set of solvable equations but the calculation does happen. It’s part of our operating system.
Only after Humans had being throwing things around for a couple of million years, could we get down to the slow business of developing useful abstract notions. Like a positional system of mathematics, time, complex numbers, algebra. These are all things that are not hardwired. On the contrary they are remarkably counter-intuitive to our operating system and have taken centuries of trial and error to grasp them.
With these abstract notions we created computers, and interestingly, computers have evolved towards us, in completely the opposite direction. They started life as deeply abstract calculation engines. Nowadays, with rich graphical interfaces, touch screens, large icons and finger control they are increasingly feeling like physical objects.
Systems that run on Human OS
We are hired-wired to respond to real-world physics. So it make sense that machines that run our software feel the most comfortable and the most intuitive to us.
Apple has a pretty good record of developing uniquely human products. A much discussed example of this is the iPhone. As with a number of Apple products, it includes a seemingly superfluous set of features, which were designed exclusively for the Human operating system. It had a display that could be touched, pinched, swiped and poked. An interface which ‘slid’ realistically left and right and simulated a real sliding object, with inertia and momentum. A display that righted itself.
For the first few days after buying an iPhone, most people simply couldn’t stop playing with them. The experience was undeniably satisfying because it tapped directly into our hardwired OS.
Another example is Google Earth. I remember being astounded when I first came across this technology in 2006. The mapping software was functionally very useful. But the user interface, for me, was the thing that made it great. The user could ‘spin’ a realistic globe, zoom in, pan, tilt and ‘fly’ across the earth. The inertia, perspective, texture and shadowing all added emotional realism to the rational experience of map browsing.
The move to Human OS cuts across many technologies
Take the example of video games. Back in the late 70’s people were astounded at the game of TV Pong. The way the square ball deflected of the player bat simulated a single basic law of physics (deflection of force). It felt good when we hit the ball – a little like a real game of Ping Pong. So we played and played.
Nowadays we have Call of Duty Modern Warfare Black Ops. The game basically involves shooting people and ducking. But the visceral effect on the player is staggering. This is because it simulates nearly every physical law I can think off. Namely gravity, inertia, texture, fluid dynamics, light and shadow, particles, smoke, fire, smoke, heat distortion, reflection, refraction, dynamic contrast (the way we see in bright light), coronas, disintegration, shear force, impact force and so on). It feels like a real world, because it simulates so much of what feels natural to us.
And it’s not just the games themselves. Hardware is increasingly seeking to simulate physics as realistically as possible. First the Wii, then the Kinect both seek to increasingly break down the barriers between the human and simulated physical worlds.
Now think about OS’s. In the beginning, OS’s like Unix were command and syntax-based. Then Xerox and Apple Mac simulated a 2d environment, where icons can be ‘picked up’, dragged and dropped, and the Mouse acts as a kind of proxy for the hand.
With every new version of every OS, more physics. Even Windows 7 has elements which fade in and out, cast shadows, scroll bars have inertia.
Apple’s iOS is interesting because it takes physical simulation further. Objects slide, spin and stop just like real objects. Recent prototypes like Bumptop try to take this on even further with a navigable 3d environment, files that act like game tiles with varying weights that can be picked, stacked and even toppled.
A great many technological movements fit this model. I’ve put some here, but I’m sure you can think of more.
The Future
Across the board, mass technology is trending towards more physical simulation as a way of becoming more compatible with the Human OS. As technologies move towards the Human OS, our intuitive grasp of them will also accelerate, and the need to ‘learn’ how to operate a computer system will simply disappear. It will feel so obvious and so coupled with the physical world, people will not even be aware they are operating one.
It also begs the question, as systems become more compatible with the Human OS, how will they change us? We have already seen evidence of advanced hand-eye coordination in gamers, increased evidence of ADD-like behavior in multitaskers who are empowered further by multitasking mobile devices.
The relationship that Humans have with their own technology is a symbiotic relationship. Both are mutually beneficial, but also mutually dynamic. In other words, we benefit but we also change. That is why it is so interesting.

Komputer - OS dan Software
By Lance Spitzner
Lance Spitzner wonders why we invest so much each year in security technologies but still fail to patch the most vulnerable element of all - the Human OS.
Image: bbh-labs.com
Computers and mobile devices store, process and transfer highly valuable information. As a result, your organization most likely invests a great deal in protecting them. Protect the end point and you protect the information. Humans also store, process and transfer information — people are in many ways nothing more than another operating system, the Human OS.
Yet if you compare how much organizations invest in securing their computers versus how much effort they put into teaching employees how to safeguard information, you would be stunned at the difference. For example, organizations typically invest in the following resources to protect an end device:
- Antivirus software
- Patch management
- Virtual private networks
- Host-based prevention systems
- Two-factor authentication
- Vulnerability scanning
- End-point encryption
- Log monitoring
Now go down that list and add up the cost for securing each computer. Then add support contracts, help desk phone calls, and how many full-time employees it takes to maintain all of this technology. You probably end up spending $100 or $200 a device.
Now, let's go through the exact same process for people. How much to secure each employee? Hear those crickets chirping? Your organization is most likely spending 20 to 50 times more on securing computers than on securing the Human OS, if it's working with those employees at all.
If finding the dollar amount for each computer is too complex, try a simpler metric. Count how many people you have on your information security team. Now, out of all those people, how many focus on securing technology and how many on securing the Human OS? You probably will end up with a very similar metric, something like 20-1 or 50-1. And organizations still wonder why the human is the weakest link.
Technology is important, and we must continue to invest in and protect it. However, eventually you hit a point of diminishing returns. We have to invest in securing the Human OS as well, or bad guys will continue to bypass all of our controls by simply compromising the human end-point.
Think of it in these terms: Fifteen years ago was the wild, wild West of hacking, the golden age of worms. Cyberattackers could easily compromise millions of systems by randomly scanning every system on the Internet and break into anything that was vulnerable, which was most systems in those days. We in the security community felt a great deal of pain and invested heavily in securing computers. Nowadays, computers come out of the box with firewalls, minimized services, automated patching and memory randomization. Fifteen years later, it has become much harder to compromise a computer.
But in those same fifteen years, what have we done for the Human OS? Nothing. As a result, the Human OS is still stuck in the days of Windows95, WinNT or Solaris 2.5. There is no firewall on by default, all the services are enabled, and this operating system is happy to share data with anyone that asks.
Until we begin to address the human problem, the bad guys will continue to have it easy.

DRDO is developing an indigenous Operating System for computers that will help the government secure the country's cyber network and reduce dependency on foreign OSes.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is working on an indigenous operating system in a bid to secure the country's cyber network. According to DRDO director-general V K Saraswat, the Indian OS will be ready in couple of years. Saraswat further revealed that about 150 engineers have been working on the OS for the last one and half years.
India mainly depends on imported OSes based on Windows and Linux, which may have security risks, he noted. "To secure our cyber network, our own OS for computers is highly essential," Saraswat said adding the cyber criminals were on the loose, and cyber and network security have become an area of concern.
“The system will ensure that we are independent of what's happening outside and ensure the safety of our own networks,” he said.
He also stressed the need for indigenous manufacturing of good hardware. "We are still importing transmitters and receivers. For the country to equip itself well for electronic warfare, hardware manufacturing also should improve," he added.
DRDO chief's remark comes in the wake of growing cyber attacks in the country. It's notable the cyber criminals have especially targeted the Indian government websites. According to the government statistcis more than 14,000 websites were hacked till October this year. Moreover, as many as 294 government sites of various government departments and ministries were attacked by hackers during the period between January-October 2012. Even, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Kapil Sibal's site was defaced by the hackers.
Despite taking proactive and reactive measures, the government has apparently failed to secure the country's cyber network. With cyber criminals turning their attention towards users in emerging cities and mobile devices, the government has to ramp up its network and make the India net users more aware about the internet security.

Windows Azure has added eight new features, including new mobile services, website scaling, and data sync.
Vice President Scott Guthrie detailed the new features on his blog. Here are some of the more noteworthy improvements:
Mobile Services: Better capability to schedule background jobs so the user experience doesn’t get disrupted. Jobs can be scheduled on pre-set time intervals, allowing the developer to perform scenarios without creating or managing a separate virtual machine. In addition, Azure mobile services are now available in Northern Europe. Previously, Windows Azure Mobile Services was only supported in the US East and US West regions of Windows Azure.
Website Scaling: Developers can now scale websites to six shared instances and up to 10 reserved instances. These can be small, medium or large in size. Previously, a developer could only scale to three shared instances and three reserved ones. Guthrie also writes that Azure now has a new custom create workflow that allows for the configuration of source control settings as part of the site creation.
Data Sync: SQL Data Sync Services are now available from within the new Windows Azure Management Portal. Guthrie explains that SQL Data Sync lets you synchronize data between multiple SQL databases. These SQL databases can span across your on-premises environment and the cloud, or across multiple cloud-hosted databases that might include multiple Windows Azure regions around the world.
Here’s the full list of what’s available:
There have been a number of recent updates to Windows Azure, which illustrates that it trying to be more competitive with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Azure is still a ways from being a true challenger but it has continually been adding new features that shows that it is intent on closing the gap.
Earlier this month, the team reported that a developer can do automatic push updates for iOS mobile apps. It also announced a drop in price for storage. Earlier this week Forrester Researchreported that Azure is second in popularity with developers to AWS. It’s still far behind Amazon Web Services, but the Azure team is showing it has credibility with developers. That’s a big deal, showing that a community is indeed emerging on the Azure cloud.

Three main components of Azure are currently available: Windows Azure 2008/ 2008 R2 Server Edition Compute Services, Windows SQL Azure instances and storage facilities. These components are sewn together by Microsoft's AppFabric, an orchestration system for messaging, access control and management portal.
However, none of the Windows Azure instances are currently capable of being controlled by Microsoft's System Center management system. They can't be touched by an organisation's Active Directory infrastructure today, only by beta pre-release features. Instance availability through mirroring or clustering is currently unavailable, too.
Overall, it's far too early to recommend Windows Azure. The architectural diagram looks very interesting, and while some pieces appeared ready in testing, big chunks of the Azure offerings aren't ready for enterprise use.
How we tested
We controlled our Microsoft-supplied Azure account from our laptops (MacBook Pros, sometimes running Window 7 VMs) and through our network operations centre resources (numerous Dell, Tyan and HP servers, 10GB Extreme Switch, Compellent SAN, 100Mbps connection hosted at nFrame.com).
We installed the Azure related development environment on a Windows 7 VM, which includes SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, IIS7, Visual Studio 2010 Express, Azure SDK and other components using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer.
Then we proceeded to create a CGI Web Role using Visual Studio. We created a simple test PHP app connecting to the SQL Azure database to make sure we had it working correctly. We also had to get all the configuration settings correct in Visual Studio's config files.
Afterwards, we setup the Wordpress blog to use SQL Azure as the database, and added a plugin, which used Azure Storage for uploaded images/files. We then found about how rebooting an instance causes local drive storage, where our WordPress pilot application was stored, to go away. Even application monitoring claimed the application was working despite the fact that the HTML was missing.
We also pushed the buttons and clicked AppFabric features, and learned Azure and SQL Azure navigation, provisioning and management components.
What you get today
Windows Azure provides production application support through Windows Azure 2008/2008 R2 Server Edition Compute services, Windows SQL Azure, and several forms of data storage. Customers can buy these services in graduated instance sizes, and deploy them into various geographies, and different Microsoft data centers within some of the geographies.
What's available today is a subset of the grander Windows Azure future architectural roadmap. Buying into the Azure vision may turn out to have great value in the future, and the pieces that are running today worked well, but they don't satisfy the wide number of use cases associated with IaaS or PaaS.
Another component of Microsoft's PaaS push is Azure Marketplace, where developers can buy, sell and share building blocks, templates and data sets, plus finished services and apps needed to build Azure platform apps. The DataMarket section's offerings are limited, while the apps section isn't commercially available yet.
Microsoft intends to expand the limited Azure Marketplace offerings with both community and also marketed development tools, Azure-based SaaS third party applications, and other business offerings. Ostensibly third parties will replicate and offer the Azure model to clientele from these and other sources.
Virtual machine roles
Windows Azure components are defined by roles, currently Web Roles and worker roles (based on IIS and .Net functionality), which can run against SQL Azure database instances. The deployed processes are managed through AppFabric, whose functionality exists inside the Azure resource pools as a management layer and messaging infrastructure.
Glaringly absent is the Virtual Machine Role. VM Roles are the commodity-version of Azure Windows Server licences. We've seen them, but because they aren't available yet, extreme constraints are imposed on the current Azure platform.
Lack of a fully-loadable virtual machine capability means that Azure doesn't fit a number of use cases that have become associated with IaaS cloud services. For example, you can't upload your own VM, even if it's religiously bound by all Windows 2003/8 Server R2 constraints, and run it in Azure.
As a result, you can't currently use VM commodity-type services and use-cases found through Amazon EC2, Rackspace, Bluelock, your own internal cloud and other provisioning processes, most of which will digest your Windows 2003/8 R2 Server Edition applications and run them with glee.
Traditional licensing models currently imposed by Microsoft today mean that there is no licence portability for the Windows server instances in Azure. They must be Azure-specific instances and licensed in that way. If you already have Windows 2008 instances, they're not portable into the Azure cloud.
Also, you can't take one of your current on-premises versions of Windows Server 2008, SQL Server or .Net into Azure as a Virtual Hard Disk/VHD-booted instance today. When the VM Role becomes available, Microsoft proposes hypervisor support for Windows 2003+ licence use on Windows Azure, where licence transfer via VM use in the IaaS model will likely be possible.
Microsoft has developed the Azure infrastructure fabric to be emulated and replicated by future managed services providers (MSP), likely at the point when both PaaS and IaaS become available. Microsoft's half dozen data centres will be the core development platform for Azure, but Windows Azure will be rented in a franchise-like fashion in the future, according to Microsoft product marketing spokespeople, much in the way that VMware has service providers renting vCenter.
The final portions of Azure are storage and content distribution (CDN). Windows Azure allowed us to store in the familiar folder (Drive C: style) or via an API which supports BLOBs (Binary Large Objects), tables and queues. Stored data doesn't even have to be in the same data centre or geography, although we found it's a great way to run up data transport costs when we did it accidentally.
Test results
We asked for access to the Azure Business Edition and SQL Server Business Edition. Whatever is done inside of the Azure Cloud is controlled by Microsoft's AppFabric, which will place an instance of a pre-determined/pre-selected size in one of its data centres, which are defined by region and specific data centres.
We could choose one of five instance types, ranging in cost from a nickel an hour to nearly a dollar an hour based on platform strength. Storage costs $0.15/GB/month plus a penny per 10,000 storage transactions.
Systems mirroring is currently not available within Azure, unlike Amazon Web Services (which recently and famously crashed despite availability constructs). Availability can be somewhat accomplished by setting the number of instances created in an application to two or more.
VMware-based IaaS services often offer mirroring or other availability services that don't currently exist, except as future clusters, inside of Azure. You'll also be charged for traffic between data centres, even within regions, we found, thus making long distance clustering and/or mirroring for safety quite expensive.
It's important to understand what's not production quality today, since we didn't test these features. These are beta or CTP:
- Virtual Machine Roles - uploadable VM payloads based on virtual hard disks (VHD), Hyper-V features are beta and CTP for eventual use in both IaaS and PaaS models
- Azure Connect - Provides secure IP-level connectivity between Windows Azure and your enterprise, no current VPNs for public/private cloud constructs in production
- Azure Traffic Manager - Load balancing traffic management to multiple host environments with three qualities: performance, failover or round-robin balancing, this is an IaaS feature not currently seen often in PaaS models
- SQL Azure Reporting -which is both CTP and invitation-only
- Connectivity to Microsoft's SaaS BPOS services
- Federated identity options, Active Directory doesn't work today
- Public/Private interaction via the Windows Azure Appliance Platform works only for a few private customers, and is likely CTP
- Mirroring or cluster creation is unavailable
- Microsoft Systems Center modules don't really work because Active Directory federation isn't possible (among other reasons)
- Our current product licences aren't transferrable - SQL Server, Windows 2008R2, and .Net licences aren't usable on Azure, but might be after VHDs work. After all, on a VHD you can load what you want
- Developers and business partners can't use Microsoft Service Provider Licensing Agreements to cover Windows Azure use currently
- Local storage persistence is CTP - only BLOB storage is guaranteed to be persistent after an instance reboot. Drive C is as good as the instance not rebooting unless you unload it from a BLOB first, after the local NTFS drive is initialised after a reboot
Eclipse, and a stunning number of third party tools largely using REST communications, are used to talk to .Net functionality inside of an instance. The Windows Azure Server instance storage drives are NTFS volumes, and made using page BLOBs as an NTFS-formatted Virtual Hard Drive.
SQL Azure databases can be connected and used by an Azure 2008 R2 instance, and SQL Azure instances are able to be communicated with via client-side APIs from an external source.
Azure instances are controlled through AppFabric, which is an Azure-resident cloud middleware API and messaging infrastructure, a service bus in Microsoft parlance. It's used for access control, instance setup and chooses how, given the choices we made, an instance would be hosted.
Eventually, AppFabric can be used to provide proposed access identity control between distributed and connected apps or potentially (beta alert) internal appliance-like applications. Storage/metadata caching services are also available from AppFabric, but these were not tested.
Windows Azure runs programs and stores data, and is used in the context of roles that are similar to how Windows Server thinks of roles. Today, using Microsoft's Visual Studio or development suites like Eclipse, you can develop code to run with an IIS web interface, or background Worker Roles which do not use IIS.
We tested Web and Worker Roles along with the SQL Azure Role using a Microsoft Developer Network blog-recommended implementation of Wordpress blogging software into the Azure cloud. The process used a Web Role that accessed Azure storage and used SQL Azure, with the well known WordPress blogging app.
We installed WordPress using Visual Studio Express to create our WordPress Website. After we created a Windows Azure Web Role as an Azure project, we had to add the php SQL Server library, the Azure PHP SDK, php and Wordpress files all in the Visual Studio project. We reacquainted ourselves with the hell of configuration files.
All worked fine until an upgrade demanded a reboot of the instance. Then we discovered that NTFS local storage isn't guaranteed to be persistent, although Windows Azure Drives and BLOBs are. Indeed our storage disappeared as we'd mistakenly chosen NTFS local storage, after we rebooted the instance.
The Azure Web Role WordPress application we used ran within a "medium" Windows Server 2008 instance with two cores at 1.6GHz with 3.5GB of RAM with 490GB of disk space. It costs $0.24 per hour for the instance (not including the SQL Azure costs, which vary per database from $9.95 to $499.95 per month).
