Motorola XOOM Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update – U.S. Wi-Fi Models Only(Photo: Motorola | Mobile & Apps)

Google's Nexus 7 is no longer the only Jelly Bean tablet in town, as Motorola has started rolling out the latest Android update for Xoom Wi-Fi tablet owners in the United States. The update is finally rolling out after testing the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean JRO03H build with members of Motorola Feedback Network. There is no word yet on the Jelly Bean update release in other countries or for 3G and 4G version of the XOOM tablet.

The update brings the exciting set of Jelly Bean features, including Google Now, revamped notifications, enhanced widgets, and more. The Android 4.1 update is rolling out over-the-air and is 79MB in size.

The new version of Android promises great features and enhancements, including a much improved user interface and response, as Jelly Bean is the fastest, smoothest version of Android so far. The update to Google's popular mobile operating system also brings notable improvements to widgets, which have been optimized for customization and self-resizing if you pack too many on the same screen. With the new widget features, it is now easier than ever to personalize the home screen.

Notifications are now actionable and expandable, allowing users to take action directly from the notification shade, and the Gallery app has also been tweaked for simpler photo viewing and sharing via email or social networks. The Jelly Bean update also comes with a smarter keyboard with more relevant and accurate Android dictionaries, making text input faster by predicting your next word, as well as enhanced Text-to-Speech capabilities. This means that voice typing on Android is now even better due to these improved Text-to-Speech capabilities, and it works even without a data connection.

As previously mentioned, the build currently rolling out is arriving only for the U.S. Wi-Fi model, and there is no mention when Verizon XOOMs will get their taste of the Jelly Bean. While some people on the xda-developer forums are hoping for a widespread release by the end of the month, others are more pessimistic. The Verizon-flavored XOOM tablet just got its Ice Cream sandwich update last month, while Wi-Fi models got it back in January. Moreover, Verizon has been rather slow in pushing out updates for its LTE-enabled Galaxy Nexus, while the GSM versions can already grab the Android 4.1 update over the air.

If you have a Wi-Fi XOOM tablet, however, you can look into the device's settings and check for the Jelly Bean update. It may not appear immediately, but it will be there eventually. Some users have successfully forced the update by clearing the Google Services Framework first, so this may be a viable solution. To do so, go to Settings - Apps - All - Google Services Framework - Clear Data. You may have to try a few times, but it should work eventually.
