We've been raving about all the green fashion at New York Fashion Week, from Edun to Samantha Pleet, but it takes more than just great clothes to complete the look.

Aveda's Didier Malige shows us how to recreate the runway hair styles from Band of Outsiders Spring/Summer 2012 show at home. Here's our step-by-step guide: Hair styles at Band of Outsiders start with the clothes. Both the menswear-inspired collection, Boy, and more feminine line, "girl," were influenced by the "1975 Australian film, 'Picnic at Hanging Rock,' which tells the story of three students who disappear on an excursion to Hanging Rock in Victoria, Canada in 1900," designer Scott Sternberg says. "This is traditional Victorian picnic gone awry, wrought with mystery and haunted with a sort of supernatural twist."

Aveda's Didier Malige took the collection's inspiration to create two looks: long, whirled waves for the Band of Outsiders girl look and a textured, tousled chignon for Band of Outsiders Boy.

Get the "girl" look, pictured at left, with Malige's step-by-step tips, below.
Divide hair in half and twist each section, working Aveda Brilliant Retexturizing Gel into hair. Wrap each twist into a spiral and pin in place. Dry with a hairdryer and then set for several minutes. Then take hair out and separate the twists using your fingers to create relaxed, carefree-looking waves.

For the boy look:
Use Aveda Air Control Hair Spray or Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion to add texture and fullness to hair, then pull back into a loose chignon and pin into place. Use a comb or your fingers to create wisps of hair throughout, giving it a slightly undone look.

Since both looks have a carefree aesthetic, fly-away hairs aren't an issue and depending on your hair type you don't need much product, if any, to create the look at home. Stylists are in a hurry to get the models ready for each show, which is why you see multiple stylists armed with hair dryers working on one model. If you have more time at home and plan ahead you can forgo the hairdryer all together.

Important to note about Aveda's aerosols is that they are have a net-zero impact on the environment. Aveda funds renewable energy projects through NativeEnergy to offset the CO2 associated with the manufacture, transportation and use of every Aveda aerosol hair spray sold globally.

What do you think of the hair styles? Will you try them at home? Tell us in the comment section, below.
