Who says social media keeps folks indoors? An online game that awards points and prizes for pictures taken with cell phone cameras of outdoor adventures is encouraging people to get outdoors and Capture California.
Social media has the bad rap of keeping folks indoors. Now, it's being used to get them outdoors.
Capture California, an online game using cameras on mobile phones is encouraging teams of couples, friends and family to submit pictures of their outdoor adventures, to win prizes. Points are awarded for photos taken at more than 120 California locations.
Sean Senti who invented the game for The California Parks Company said, "We began Capture California in Northern California last year, and it can now be played throughout the state. REI and Southwest Airlines joined us this year, providing such attractive prizes as a pair of iPads, two Novara Portal mountain bikes, an REI Adventure Package, tickets on Southwest Airlines and many other outdoor prizes."
Teams find a list of qualifying outdoor destinations at the Capture California website, then submit photos of themselves taken at one of these sites with an identifying team flag to earn points. "The teams include couples, friends, siblings and families, who are ready for an fun outdoor adventure. The use of social media just makes it all the more fun, as players see how they're doing relative to other teams," said Senti.
"Whimsical team names, such as Are We There Yet?, Team Flannel, Three Girls and a Boy, We Play 4 Keeps and Which Way Should We Go?, reflect their personalities or composition, and add to the playful nature of the game," said Senti.
There's no entry fee to play Capture California, just register online at http://www.capturecaliforniagame.com. Then, go outside and play.
